About the Artist

Joy Monroe is a body painter who uses vulnerability as her canvas. Inspired by the glamourous productions of companies like Cirque Du Soleil and Sports Illustrated, she found opportunities to share stories through the body while keeping an authentic aesthetic. A woman of many talents (classically trained chef being one of them), she found language in color, and applies it like a shield and armor on her models. Her ability to allow her subjects space to escape in the stories expressed on their skin is often described as “therapeutic”, navigating her own confidence while building upon others. In a world that too often considers exhibition of natural bodies shameful, she continues to highlight the culture, mysticism and beauty of all body types with thoughtfully curated showcases like UnflameFreedom and Warriors of The Wind
